Above design is based on Champion's Islander.
House we were going to build, but NC General Contractor licensing killled it.
Cleared the house site in the fall of 2023
In the spring of 2024 I rented an excavator from Whiteville Rental to remove stumps from the house and septic site.
Black plastic (not shown) was then installed over the septic site to prevent the crepe myrtle roots from sprouting over the summer.
The septic sytem was larger than anticiapated so in fall of 2024 I rented another excavator, this time from Shallotte, for more stump removal.
Also used it to fill in a ditch that was not needed (no photos for this)
Hard fill, not loam, was spread over the house site prior to foundation work.
1) Rebar for strong concrete
2) There will a footer and block foundation for the porch perimeter
3) Footers have been poured. Note different heights of the concrete: back section will be 5 blocks high, front 6
We visited our house at the factory in Laurinburg NC prior to delivery
9/16/2024 We had a foot of rain the day the cement blocks arrived! He had to come back a couple days later.
Foundation constructed such that the 4 front porch walls form an enclosure that has no entry.
In addition to concrete block walls, the house is supported by center pillars.
9/25/2024 The house arrive in two sections. The small tractor that pulled each section in was remote controlled
so that the operator could walk around and see clearly what was happening.
9/26/2024 The next 12 photos show the "Great Room" half of the house arriving on the foundation.
The next 12 photos show:
Bedroom section being placed in position.
Roof being raised and then some shingles added.
The septic system is huge because, not far below the topsoil, there is clay.
So that it would not be even larger, the 3rd bedroom was changed to a "study".
That said, many people commented that Brunswick County is too strict on its regs.
Each set of 3 septic pipes is surrounded by styrafoam pellets.
If not buried by a foot of topsoil, the plastic septic tank can float if it is empty and there is a lot of rain!

The septic field has five rows of pipes, and each row has 3 pipes.
And the tank is not buried at all! Hope no heavy rains until we get some weight in there.
In our move to a new house, we will be leaving behind two sheds.
DIck added a wall to the cottage's pavilion and then shelves etc to that wall.
Mid-November, the vinyl siding was finished on the ends of the house.
Plus vinyl was put on the bare strip around the base of the house
(where the house was joined to the double sill below it).
No more photos till next year - we are in NH for the holidays.
